The art of Acting busy

Just returned from a jaunt to the mother of all non-productive, ‘acting-busy’ type offices – a Government office – and boy, did I miss my old life.

When someone else was paying me to saunter in at a reasonable hour (only losers got up at at 5.30 in the morning), shuffle through a few papers, check some mail, break for tea, check some mail again and act busy till lunch, gossip with the gang (on the phone, at the loo, in the corridor), share a samosa or anything full-fat and oily with a pal, attend a meeting where everyone is busy passing the buck, do a last check and log out.

Sigh. Those were the days 🙂
